The Friends Trail offers gorgeous river views and fun rock-hopping spots the kids will love, while the Nature Center Trail is a short, simple loop that’s great for younger hikers. If you want something a bit more adventurous, the Skyline Trail has a few tougher sections but rewards you with beautiful forest scenery. The Tree Trail is a great little walk for families, especially if you’re already stopping at the Forest Heritage Center or the gift shop. The trail begins right in the parking lot and winds through a quiet, shaded section of forest with interpretive signs that teach kids about the different trees and plants in the area. It’s short, easy, and perfect for stretching little legs before or after exploring the museum. Even our crew enjoyed spotting the signs and trying to match the leaves to the trees — a fun, low-effort way to ease kids into hiking at Beavers Bend.

Broken Bow has plenty of adrenaline-pumping activities for big kids and teens, from axe throwing and ATV rentals to guided trail rides and the popular Rugaru Adventures zip-line course. These experiences add a fun dose of adventure to any family trip, especially if your older kids are looking for something beyond the usual hiking and sightseeing. Just be warned: these activities book up fast. During our Thanksgiving Break visit, we missed out on trail rides and zip-lining simply because we didn’t reserve them early enough. If these are must-dos for your family, it’s worth booking ahead to guarantee your spot.

We waited an hour for a table (it’s popular for a reason!), but Grateful Head’s delicious pizza and dog-friendly patio were worth it.
